How we measure this →

You're not getting rejected because you're unqualified.

Most rejections happen before a human ever reads your name.

Your résumé didn't match the keywords. Your cover letter opened with "I am writing to express my interest." Your application format broke the ATS parser somewhere between upload and review.

None of that has anything to do with whether you can do the job.

Rectangle One doesn't pretend the system is fair. But it helps you navigate it — with tools that are honest about what they're measuring, and why.

Everything you need, from first draft to final offer.

Résumé scoring breakdown

Résumé Builder

Know exactly where you stand.

Rectangle One scores your résumé across four dimensions — relevance, structure, impact, and presentation — against a published, versioned rubric. Specific criteria, applied consistently, every time.

You'll see what's working, what isn't, and what to fix. Before a recruiter sees it.

Scoring is tested for consistency before every model update. 100% of our test corpus scores within ±5 points across repeated runs.

Power Apply tailored application

Power Apply

One application. Tailored for this role. Tracked from send to offer.

Paste in the job description. Power Apply rewrites your résumé to raise keyword coverage — by an average of 18 percentage points — while keeping your experience truthful. Titles are never changed to force a false fit. Numbers are never invented.

It then generates a cover letter from your actual résumé: specific to the role, specific to the organisation, with zero filler phrases and zero fabricated credentials.

And once you apply — track every role, every stage, every follow-up in one place. Because applying has become a numbers game, and your pipeline deserves better than a colour-coded spreadsheet.

ATS audit results

ATS Audit

Real ATS feedback. No guesswork.

The ATS audit runs on deterministic code. Twenty-plus rules, applied identically on every résumé, against the formatting and structure failures that consistently block applications from being read.

Every finding has a severity level and a specific fix. If your résumé scores 100, it means 100.

Zero LLM calls. The result never varies on the same input.

Career Coach chat

Career Coach

The advisor who already knows your situation.

Career Coach isn't a general AI you have to brief from scratch. It knows your résumé. It knows which roles you've applied for and what stage each one is at. It knows the job descriptions you're targeting.

So when you ask "how should I prepare for this interview?" or "am I underselling myself on salary for this role?" — it answers from your actual context, not a generic template.

Ask it anything. It's the part of the product that doesn't fit neatly in a feature list.

How we build it

We measure our AI. Most tools don't.

Every scoring flow in Rectangle One is tested against a published evaluation methodology before any model goes into production. We do it because a number that means nothing is worse than no number at all.

Here's what we test, and what we've found:

Reliability Score the same résumé three times. The headline score should move by no more than ±5 points.

Current result: 100% of our 45-résumé test corpus meets this bar. Mean standard deviation: 0.37 points.

For context: published research on human résumé reviewers shows inter-rater variance that can differ by double digits on identical input. Our run-to-run band is materially smaller, on the same résumé, every time.

Fairness Swap a candidate's name, school, or location for a demographically different version. The score shouldn't move.

We run 225 of these perturbation checks per evaluation cycle — across Anglo, South Asian, African, and other name profiles, community college credentials, and non-metro addresses.

We found a real bias signal in v0.1.0: a 6-point drop for West-African names on one résumé, reproducible across four independent runs. We fixed it in v0.3.1. We publish every case where the methodology catches something, and what we did about it.

Faithfulness Every AI rewrite suggestion is scanned for tokens that weren't in your original résumé before you see it.

Novel numbers (a year, a percentage, a salary figure the model added) are flagged with a visible prompt to verify. Novel proper nouns and acronyms are flagged too.

The AI can legitimately add things. You decide whether they stay.

We also publish our limitations — what we haven't proven, what the corpus size can and can't detect, and what's in progress. Real confidence comes from knowing your limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's actually useful. The free plan includes the full résumé builder, the rubric-based scoring, the deterministic ATS audit, PDF export, and a basic Career Coach. You can build a strong, ATS-clean, well-scored résumé from start to finish without ever paying us. We only ask you to upgrade when you need Power Apply (per-role tailoring), full Career Coach context, or higher-volume features.

Yes — and it matters more than people think. Both ATS systems and human recruiters scan for specific keywords and relevant experience. Tailoring each résumé lets you highlight the right aspects of your background, or reframe them, so you clear the initial screening and maximise your chances of landing an interview. Power Apply does this for you in one click, without inventing experience you don't have.

You can. People do. The difference is that a general chatbot doesn't know what an ATS parser does, doesn't run a faithfulness check before showing you its output, and doesn't track its own consistency between runs. It will happily invent a metric, swap a job title to fit the role, or rewrite your résumé into something that scores worse against keyword filters than what you started with.

Rectangle One is built around the constraints that actually matter for hiring — ATS structure, faithfulness to your real experience, and consistent scoring — and we test for them before every release.

We test for it explicitly. Every release runs through 225 fairness perturbation checks — swapping names, schools, and locations across demographic groups — and any score drift greater than 2 points is flagged and investigated.

We've found bias in our own system before. We fixed it, and we publish what we found. The full methodology, including the cases we caught and how we resolved them, is on our methodology page.

Every template in Rectangle One is labelled for ATS compatibility, and you can filter by it.

If you're applying through an online portal or uploading directly to an employer system, use an ATS-friendly template. These prioritise clean structure and standard formatting.

If you're sending your résumé directly to a hiring manager, sharing it as a link, or posting it to your LinkedIn profile, the design-forward templates are worth considering. Some roles and industries respond well to a résumé that looks like a considered document.

The ATS audit checks your content and formatting regardless of which template you use, so you'll always know where you stand on the structural side.

Not at all. AI assists with scoring, suggestions, and tailoring — but you stay in control. You can write, edit, and refine everything manually at any stage. Nothing the AI suggests gets applied without you reviewing it, and anything novel it adds is flagged for your verification before it lands on your résumé.

We currently support local currencies for the USA, UK, EU, and India. For all other regions, payments are processed in USD.

Your next application deserves a fair shot.

Start free. Build something honest. See what happens when your résumé is actually working as hard as you are.
